Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust in North West England asked Informed Assessment to assist with the recruitment of three Director level posts. The Trust was keen to have a thorough and robust assessment process and contacted Informed Assessment following a personal recommendation. Considerable use was made of internet and email to deliver the assessment process as effectively as possible.
The job and person specification for the posts were analysed and an ‘email-able’ questionnaire developed, to be completed by the candidates before their panel interviews. Each candidate who applied for the same post answered the same questions and their responses were then assessed in a structured way. This particularly transparent assessment process helped the selection panel to compare and contrast the candidates' responses and Informed Assessment's evaluations much more easily.
Candidates also completed a separate practical task, again by email, which was assessed by Informed Assessment consultant Evan Boucher drawing on his extensive senior level NHS experience.
Finally, these results were integrated with the results of an online personality assessment to provide a comprehensive picture of the candidates' suitability for each post and suggested questions for the panel to use in the final interviews were supplied.
The use of email-able documents and online assessment also made the process more user-friendly and quicker for candidates.
Commenting after the assessments were completed, Andrew Foster, Chief Executive of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust, said:
