In-depth one-to-one managerial assessments for FM Global

FM GLOBAL

FM Global is one of the world’s largest commercial and industrial property insurance and risk management organisations specialising in property protection with its extensive expertise in loss prevention engineering and research.

Informed Assessment undertook a number of individual manager assessments for FM Global to provide an in-depth picture of each candidate’s strengths, and areas for development, against an agreed competency model for the role.

Typically the assessment process took half a day per candidate, and usually included three exercises. For example, a recent senior management assessment included:

  • A personality questionnaire looking at each manager’s preferred approach to different tasks and situations
  • The Scenarios test
  • An analysis presentation exercise

The analysis presentation exercise is pitched at a senior level and requires candidates to review a range of information on the current state of a business, and make recommendations for the business strategy moving forward.

Candidates produce a short executive summary outlining their recommendations and then present their findings to an assessor panel.

As well as having high ‘face validity’ i.e. candidates see the relevance to the job, this style of exercise enables line managers and other stakeholders to be involved in the assessment process as part of the assessor panel.

At the end of each assessment session, the results are reviewed by Informed Assessment and the assessor panel. Tailored assessment reports are produced following the day, highlighting key strengths and areas for development. Telephone feedback is offered to each candidate.
