Demag Cranes & Components: making development happen

As part of the worldwide Demag group, Banbury-based Demag Cranes & Components is a market leader in the materials handling sector. The company offers a broad range of products and systems for the lifting and movement of many different types of loads. Its product line includes drives, motors, wheel-blocks, hoists, jib cranes and tracking systems, but it is perhaps best known for its overhead and process cranes.

Informed Assessment was invited to coordinate and run a project which gave a personal development opportunity for selected staff. The focus of the programme was to help individuals better understand their strengths and areas for development and then to move their development forward through the drafting of a Personal Development Plan (PDP).

The process consisted of two online assessments, SHL’s Occupational
Personality Questionnaire and Scenarios exercise, followed by face-to-face feedback with an Informed Assessment consultant and the production of an agreed PDP.

Using the online medium allowed flexibility as to when and where the
exercises could be completed and made best use of the individuals’ contact time with the consultant for the purpose of development support.

The resulting PDP both highlighted key strengths and areas for development and suggested tangible actions to help move the individuals’ development forward.

As well as the production of the PDP, the service from the consultant included keeping in contact with the individuals over the critical first six month period. This helped to maintain the momentum behind the programme and to refine the development plan as appropriate.
